SAN JOSE – Defensemen John Klingberg and Timothy Liljegren are each day-to-day with accidents and seem like questionable to play Friday when the winless San Jose Sharks face the Utah Mammoth of their first highway recreation of the season.

Klingberg is coping with a lower-body harm, and Liljegren, one other right-shot defenseman, has an upper-body ailment, stated Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky, who added that Klingberg’s harm doesn’t contain his resurfaced hips. Klingberg had double hip resurfacing surgical procedure in December 2023 and returned to the NHL in January with the Edmonton Oilers.

Each Klingberg and Liljegren had been injured throughout the Sharks’ 5-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at SAP Heart on Tuesday, Warsofsky stated. Klingberg didn’t play the ultimate 5:12 of regulation time, and Liljegren didn’t take a shift within the ultimate 6:13, because the Sharks (0-1-2) misplaced their third straight recreation to start the season.

Klingberg is on the Sharks’ first energy play unit and has a purpose and an help in three video games. Liljegren earned kudos for his play throughout the preseason and the Sharks’ first two video games, as his 20:14 in common time on ice is second behind Dmitry Orlov (22:19) amongst all Sharks defensemen.

The Sharks are scheduled to observe once more on Thursday morning earlier than they go away for Salt Lake Metropolis.

If Klingberg and/or Liljegren are unable to play on Friday, that will seemingly open the door for both Shakir Mukhamadullin or Vincent Desharnais, or each, to enter the lineup. Mukhamadullin has been a scratch for the Sharks’ final two video games, together with a 7-6 additional time loss to the Anaheim Geese on Saturday, and Desharnais has not but performed this season.

In Wednesday’s observe, Mukhamadullin was paired with Mario Ferraro, and Desharnais was with Sam Dickinson.

The Sharks had been carrying eight defensemen on their energetic roster as of Wednesday afternoon. After Friday, the Sharks return dwelling and play Sidney Crosby, Erik Karlsson, and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

FORWARD LINE SHUFFLE

Warsofsky shuffled his ahead traces throughout Wednesday’s observe, shifting Jeff Skinner and Philipp Kurashev to the highest line with Macklin Celebrini, and shifting Will Smith to the third line with middle Michael Misa and Collin Graf on the appropriate aspect. Smith began Tuesday’s recreation on the second line with middle Alexander Wennberg and Skinner.

Smith had three pictures on web towards the Hurricanes and almost had a power-play purpose within the first interval, however completed with a season-low 13:57 of ice time. Smith has three assists in three video games this season and is averaging 17:35 in ice time.

“A little bit perimeter. Need a little bit more from him,” Warsofsky stated of Smith. “Needs to engage a little bit more in the hockey game.”

Graf was a scratch for Tuesday’s recreation. With him coming again to the third line with Misa and Smith, Ty Dellandrea was moved to the fourth line with Barclay Goodrow and Adam Gaudette. Ryan Reaves gave the impression to be the odd man out, however Warsofsky wasn’t confirming his lineup.
