Man Haberman has Greg Papa’s assist as fill-in for 49ers native TV broadcasts

SANTA CLARA — Man Haberman is briefly assuming the native tv duties of 49ers’ broadcaster Greg Papa and acquired the seal of approval from Papa himself.

“Bob Sargent and the 49ers made the perfect choice on every level with Guy,” Papa stated in a textual content message Friday morning. “Excellent broadcaster and an exemplary person. He has been a friend for many years and has been a source of love and support when I have needed it the most.”

Sargent is the 49ers director of broadcasting.

Derek Papa, Greg’s oldest son and a co-host of KNBR’s daytime present Soiled Work together with Adam Copeland, had Haberman as a visitor Thursday. Haberman would be the TV voice Saturday night time on KPIX when the 49ers host the Denver Broncos Saturday night time at 5:30 p.m.

Greg Papa, 62, stated in assertion final week he has most cancers and would step apart to deal with therapy.

“I know it’s kind of a weird deal, my father not being on the mike, mixed emotions for you,” Derek Papa stated on the air. “I understand how a lot  you like him, I understand how a lot he loves you and I can’t be extra thrilled that you simply’ll be calling the video games this preseason, perhaps within the common season as nicely.

“But I’m happy for you, man. I know you’ve been waiting for this. You’ve been doing play-by-play for a long time. I can’t think of a better person to fill in for my pops.”

Stated Haberman: “I appreciate that Derek. Hopefully I can get through the opening Saturday.”

Haberman is a tv announcer for Huge Ten soccer and has in depth expertise as a play-by-play announcer and studio host for Pac-12 soccer, a radio host for SiriusXM, NBC Sports activities California and Bay Space, the Oakland Athletics, the Western Athletic Convention and the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies. He’s a local of Davis.

The 49ers are a frequent matter on “The Guy Haberman Podcast,” and Haberman briefly addressed his position on his present.

“Greg means a lot to a lot of us,” Haberman stated. “Means so much to me, personally and professionally. I do know he means so much to you. Once I say `you’ that might imply Niner followers, it might imply the Raiders, the Warriors, it might imply Spurs followers, radio present followers.

“It could mean somebody he met and had a great time with. It’s a lot of people. That’s what’s unique about him. He’s created so much community.”

On the social media platform “X” Haberman stated, “Can’t describe what it means to fill-in for this man, with this group. Preserve sending love and assist to Greg till we’re all fortunate sufficient to have him again.

Haberman shall be within the sales space with Tim Ryan, with Bob Fitzgerald, Keena Turner and Dennis Brown dealing with radio duties within the preseason on KSFO (810-AM) and KSAN (107.7-FM). The 49ers have made no announcement concerning play-by-play on the radio for the common season.

It isn’t identified when Papa will return, though Derek Papa stated on the air it could be “very difficult” for him to come back again this season.

“Greg’s awesome,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan stated. “We’re all pulling for him and he’s in a battle, but a battle we know he is going to win.”
