Housebreaking suspect dies in custody, Oakland Police Division says

An individual suspected of a residential break-in early Saturday morning close to the Oakland Zoo died whereas in custody, police declare.

The Oakland Police Division introduced the dying on Saturday afternoon. The division didn’t determine the deceased individual, saying it can share that info “as soon as the investigative process allows and in compliance with the law.”

Simply after 4:15 a.m. on the 11000 block of Ettrick St., officers responding to a report of a break-in at a close-by residence acquired a name for a medical emergency, which turned out to be for the suspect within the housebreaking, police stated.

“Upon arrival, officers located the individual inside the residence,” the division stated. “While attempting to detain the individual, a brief struggle ensued. After being taken into custody, the individual became unresponsive.”

Paramedics gave medical help and the suspect was transported to a hospital, the place the individual died, police stated.

Police who had been concerned within the incident have been positioned on administrative go away, following division coverage. The in-custody dying is being investigated by the Oakland Police Division’s Murder Part, OPD Inner Affairs Bureau, the Oakland Metropolis Police Fee, the Group Police Assessment Company and the Alameda County District Legal professional’s Workplace.
