San Diego police are investigating after three federal officers fired at a 59-year-old man who allegedly sped by means of secondary inspection on the Otay Mesa border crossing Monday night, almost working into Customs and Border Safety officers, officers stated.
The driving force stopped after being fired upon and surrendered. The person was not struck by gunfire however suffered minor accidents after the windshield was shot and damaged items of glass hit his face, stated police Lt. Arturo Swadener.
The incident started round 9 p.m. when the person tried to enter the U.S. by means of the Otay Mesa Port of Entry and was referred to secondary inspection, Swadener stated. The driving force tried to flee however was unable to get by means of the north finish of the lot as a result of it was blocked, Swadener stated.
He then drove south by means of the lot at a excessive fee of pace and almost struck a number of CBP officers who had been standing there, Swadener stated. In response, three CBP officers fired their weapons on the man.
No CBP officers had been injured within the incident.
San Diego police responded to the taking pictures below a countywide protocol that has officer-involved shootings investigated by an outdoor company. Homeland Safety Investigations brokers are investigating the actions of the suspect, Swadener stated.
HSI officers will even conduct an administrative investigation into the officers’ discharge of their weapons.
