Trump’s Justice Division is investigating whether or not DC police officers falsified crime information

By ALANNA DURKIN RICHER and MICHAEL KUNZELMAN, Related Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Division has opened an investigation into whether or not police officers in Washington, D.C., have falsified crime information, in keeping with an individual accustomed to the probe who wasn’t approved to publicly talk about an open investigation.

The investigation comes amid an escalating — and political — showdown between the Trump administration and town over management of the police division. It wasn’t instantly clear what federal legal guidelines might have been violated by the potential manipulation of crime information.

The mayor’s workplace declined to touch upon the matter.

The New York Occasions was first to report on the investigation. Earlier this 12 months, a Metropolitan Police Division commander suspected of manipulating crime information was positioned on paid administrative go away, NBC Washington reported.

Related Press author Matt Brown contributed to this report.
