‘The Huge Cash Present’ panel discusses Canada backing down because the White Home appears to restart commerce talks with the nation.

President Donald Trump is threatening to impose an extra tariff of 35% on Canadian items on Aug. 1, after accusing the U.S. neighbor to the north of failing to cease the stream of fentanyl into the nation and as an alternative retaliating with its personal tariffs.

In a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday that Trump posted on Fact Social, he mentioned it was a fantastic honor to ship a letter demonstrating the energy and dedication of the U.S. and Canada’s buying and selling relationship. However he additionally pointed to a relationship gone bitter, stating that the U.S. has agreed to proceed working collectively, regardless of Canada imposing tariffs towards the U.S.

“As you will recall, the United States imposed Tariffs on Canada to deal with our Nation’s Fentanyl crisis, which is caused, in part, by Canada’s failure to stop the drugs from pouring into our Country,” Trump wrote. “Instead of working with the United States, Canada retaliated with its own tariffs. Starting August 1, 2025, we will charge Canada a Tariff of 35% on Canadian products sent into the United States, separate from all Sectoral Tariffs.

Any goods shipped in a way that evades the 35% tariff, Trump said, will be subject to the higher tariff.

“As you might be conscious, there might be no Tariff if Canada, or corporations inside your Nation, determine to construct or manufacture product inside america and, in actual fact, we’ll do all the things doable to get approvals rapidly, professionally, and routinely – In different phrases, in a matter of weeks,” the president said.

“If for any cause you determine to boost your Tariffs, then, regardless of the quantity you select to boost them by, might be added onto the 35% that we cost,” he continued.

Trump then turned his attention to the “extraordinary Tariffs” Canada imposes on dairy farmers, which the president said is upwards of 400%, assuming U.S. farmers can sell their products to the people of Canada.

“If Canada works with me to cease the stream of Fentanyl, we’ll, maybe, think about an adjustment to this letter,” Trump wrote. “These Tariffs could also be modified, upward or downward, relying on our relationship together with your Nation. You’ll by no means be dissatisfied with america of America.”
