Safeway will shut East Bay retailer however grocer goals to maintain all affected staff

PINOLE — Safeway will shut certainly one of its East Bay shops however intends to switch the entire affected staff and hold them on the job at a number of of its different supermarkets.

The grocery store chain has determined to close a Pinole retailer at 1421 Tara Hills Drive, Safeway said in an official submitting it despatched to the state Employment Improvement Division.

The shutdown will remove 69 jobs at that location — however the staff might land positions at one other Safeway website.

“We intend to place all the associates into a position at another nearby location,” Terra Powers, a Safeway vice chairman, wrote in a submitting posted with the state EDD. “The exact placement of positions has not yet been completed.”

Pleasanton-based Safeway indicated it taking steps to rescue the roles of all of the affected staff.

“We do not foresee any layoffs as a result of the closure,” Safeway said within the submitting with the state labor company.

In January, Safeway revealed that it had determined to cut 156 job cuts at two workplace areas in Pleasanton. These had been all company positions and none are at Safeway supermarkets. The layoffs had been because of happen round Feb. 22.

As for the Pinole retailer shutdown, Safeway mentioned it anticipated that retailer to shut to the general public on April 4 of this yr.
