MYKOLAYIV, Ukraine—Russian forces launched airstrikes and artillery attacks as they pressed their offensive in eastern Ukraine and the fight for control of the key city of Severodonetsk intensified.

The uptick in fighting comes a day after Ukrainian forces launched strikes against Russian positions, targeting weapons depots and military bases in a bid to slow Russia’s offensive while waiting for more Western arms to be deployed to the battlefield.
