Quebec struggles to dig out from back-to-back snowstorms

Quebec remains to be struggling to recuperate from record-breaking back-to-back storms, with colleges in some components of the province closed.

Most faculties in Montreal, nevertheless, are open regardless of the abundance of snow and plenty of sidewalks not being cleared.

The town of Montreal says the snow-clearing operation will take about eight days — longer than normal.

Metropolis spokesperson Philippe Sabourin stated greater than 3,000 metropolis employees have been deployed to clear the snow as loading operations have began. 

The primary storm, the most important of the season, hit the province on Thursday morning and compelled faculty closures and flight cancellations. One other one struck Montreal on Sunday, leaving greater than 40 centimetres of snow.

Mike Cohen, spokesperson for the English Montreal Faculty Board, stated the college board met with French service centres on the island and determined to reopen lecture rooms Tuesday. 

“Even though there’s a lot of snow on the ground, a lot of difficult conditions, it made sense to reopen because these conditions are not going to change over the next several days and we can’t keep kids home from school that long,” he stated. 

Cohen requested drivers to watch out on the roads and fogeys to be affected person, given the circumstances.

“The conditions are very difficult out there so buses are going to be late picking the kids up and bringing them home,” he stated.
