Pelosi says violence of Jan. 6 Capitol assault ‘did not finish that day’

Former Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stated Sunday that the violence of the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol “didn’t end that day.”

The fourth anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, assault happens this Monday. Trump has promised to grant clemency to rioters who confirmed up on the Capitol that day as Congress licensed President Biden’s 2020 election win. The president-elect has additionally implied that some pardons may very well be issued within the first few hours of his second time period.

“It’s really a strange person who’s going to be president of the United States, who thinks that it’s OK to pardon people who are engaged in an attack,” Pelosi stated in her “Face the Nation” look.

Some former Capitol Cops who had been current amid the Jan. 6 assault have stated that Trump’s dedication to pardon rioters is “a betrayal.”

“It’s a betrayal, a stab in the heart,” former Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, who obtained long-lasting accidents on the day of the assault, stated to The Washington Submit.

Gonell’s fellow former Capitol Police officer, Harry Dunn, has stated that forgiving insurrectionists for violent actions shows an absence of accountability from the commander in chief.

“They broke the law, violated police officers, attacked us, and then went back and said we did it in the name of Donald Trump,” Dunn stated. “And then Donald Trump is going to pardon them and say it’s OK, all is forgiven.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump transition staff for remark.
