Oakland police officer shoots man, resulting in standoff

OAKLAND — An Oakland police sergeant shot a person who then hid in a close-by residence earlier than surrendering after a standoff early Saturday, authorities stated.

It began round 5:09 a.m. when the sergeant heard gunfire and noticed a person armed with a gun within the 6300 block of MacArthur Boulevard in East Oakland, in response to the Oakland Police Officer’s Affiliation.

In a bulletin to police union members, the president of the union stated the sergeant confronted after which chased the suspect on foot. The sergeant then shot the person, in response to union president Sgt. Huy Nguyen.

The wounded man then bumped into a close-by house constructing and barricaded himself earlier than ultimately giving up, the OPOA stated. The extent of his accidents was not instantly identified; a police division spokesperson didn’t reply to a request for data.

The union recognized the officer who fired as Sgt. Jared Blue-Lowry, who was not injured.

Nguyen, in his word to fellow officers, stated town has already skilled a “troubling” variety of shootings and homicides up to now in 2025.

“This underscores the challenging and often dangerous environment our officers navigate every day as they work tirelessly to protect our city,” Nguyen wrote.
