OAKLAND — A 71-year-old man has agreed to a six-year jail sentence for killing his neighbor over what police say was a misunderstanding.

Herschol Howell pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter within the 2020 stabbing loss of life of 67-year-old Billy G. Attaway Jr. As a part of a plea deal, prosecutors are dropping a homicide cost in opposition to him.

Howell, who has been in jail since 2020, shall be formally sentenced on Might 1. He has served nearly all of his jail time period already, with credit score for time served and good conduct, courtroom data present.
