Oakland girl sentenced to federal jail for submitting false insurance coverage claims

SAN FRANCISCO – A decide on Monday sentenced an East Bay girl to 33 months and someday in federal jail for submitting false insurance coverage claims utilizing stolen identities, in line with prosecutors.

Beginning in June 2020, Russo and her co-defendant – Steven Dunsmore, 35, additionally of Oakland – participated in a plot to file fraudulent insurance coverage claims to California’s Employment Growth Division utilizing different individuals’s personally figuring out data with out their permission, in line with prosecutors.

The personally figuring out data included names, dates of start and Social Safety numbers.

Prosecutors stated the duo acquired $336,545 in EDD funds.

Dunsmore pleaded responsible in February 2024 to 2 counts of fraudulent use of an unauthorized entry system and two counts of aggravated id theft, in line with prosecutors. In June 2024, Dunsmore was sentenced to 2 years and someday in jail.

Along with the jail phrases, Dunsmore and Russo have been ordered to pay $336,545 in restitution.
