Oakland: 1 particular person shot lifeless at DeFremery Park picnic

The Oakland Police Division held a press convention Sunday to debate particulars of a lethal capturing in West Oakland on Saturday evening.

The capturing occurred at DeFremery Park close to the 1600 block of Adeline Avenue round 7:30 p.m., throughout a picnic held by McClymonds Alumni Motion Committee.

Deputy Chief Frederick Shavies stated the sufferer, an alumnus of McClymonds Excessive College, was two days away from celebrating his thirty ninth birthday when he was killed. Police haven’t disclosed his identification nor a motive for the capturing.

Shavies stated the fatality was the seventieth murder this 12 months.

“Community members spanning multiple generations were having festivities, taking place at the park,” Shavies stated. “Unfortunately after 7:30 p.m., shots rang out at the center of the park.”

He stated investigators consider there could have been multiple shooter on the occasion.

“We’re thankful that no one else at this crowded, family friendly event was harmed,” Shavies added.

“I want to send my heart, prayers and thoughts to those who have been victimized,” stated Mayor Sheng Thao throughout a press convention Sunday morning. “Not just to the family members of the victim, but those who were there on that day who were terrorized. There is no place for violence here in the city of Oakland. This is an annual event, where we have seen year after year peaceful gatherings of the alumni group with McClymonds High. It is unconscionable that someone would … take someone’s life during a party celebration.”

Neighborhood members and volunteers had been on the scene Sunday cleansing up the world after the capturing left the placement in disarray.

Thao stated the varsity would supply grief counseling to these traumatized by the capturing.

“I also want to acknowledge that there are community leaders who are here in the city. We have resources for great grief counselors,” Thao stated.

The Oakland Police Division is urging anybody who could have particulars in regards to the capturing to name 510-238-3821.
