A taking pictures involving a contracted safety officer at U.S. Coast Guard housing in Novato prompted a shelter-in-place order there Thanksgiving night time that has since been lifted, Coast Guard officers stated Friday.
Novato police initially issued an alert shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday about “an altercation between US Coast Guard Security and an unknown suspect” that led to residents sheltering in place within the Bolling, Marin Valley and Coast Guard housing areas of southern Novato. The Coast Guard housing web site in Novato consists of 121 housing models on the former Hamilton Military Airfield.
Police stated the shelter-in-place orders had been lifted as of 10:30 p.m.
On Friday morning, Coast Guard Petty Officer third Class Charlie Valor stated the regulation enforcement exercise was as a consequence of a taking pictures involving a contracted safety officer on the Coast Guard housing web site.
