The Pickett Fireplace was reported round 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, off Pickett Street, close to Calistoga. By 5:30 p.m., it had burned 1,045 acres (1.6 sq. miles), the California Division of Forestry and Fireplace Safety mentioned. Evacuations had been ordered for 7 sq. miles.
