By 6 p.m. Wednesday, the hearth was estimated at 9,269 acres (14½ sq. miles), stated the California Division of Forestry and Fireplace Safety.
As of Wednesday night, Interstate 5 remained open, although the hearth was approaching the freeway close to Castaic.
