A person who police say crashed his automotive after which approached them whereas carrying a tire iron was shot to dying by two officers early Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Corona.
The confrontation happened within the car parking zone of an Applebee’s restaurant within the Riverside County metropolis.
Sgt. Robert Montanez, a police spokesman, mentioned the person crashed his sedan into an occupied pickup within the car parking zone. He obtained out of the automotive and walked across the lot, wielding a tire iron, Montanez mentioned. This occurred minutes after midnight, which is the restaurant’s listed closing time.
Police acquired emergency calls at 12:18 a.m.
Officers arrived and ordered him to drop the tire iron. He didn’t, and as he approached officers, two of them opened hearth, killing him.
The person had not been publicly recognized as of Tuesday afternoon.
The pickup’s driver was hospitalized for what police mentioned have been reasonable accidents. Montanez declined to share any statements the motive force made, citing the continued investigation.
