Man arrested after 5-hour standoff with Campbell police

CAMPBELL — An armed suspect was arrested and booked within the Santa Clara County Principal Jail after a standoff with Campbell law enforcement officials Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Union Avenue at 4:53 a.m. Sunday on stories of a disturbance and gun pictures. As soon as on scene, officers decided a gun had been fired in an occupied residence, however nobody was struck or reported injured, based on a press launch.

Officers have been unable to make contact with the suspect, a 33-year-old with prior felony convictions for grand theft, felony threats, and negligent discharge of a firearm, and determined to evacuate the encircling space out of an abundance of warning.

The division’s SWAT Staff and Disaster Negotiation Staff have been activated, and the suspected was coaxed out of the house and brought into custody with out additional incident about 10:15 a.m., greater than 5 hours after officers first responded to the house.

An unregistered semi-automatic handgun was recovered on the scene. The suspect was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm, taking pictures into an occupied dwelling and possessing an unregistered firearm.

“I am incredibly proud of our officers for their unwavering dedication to keeping our community safe,” stated Campbell Police Chief Gary Berg within the press launch. “Their professionalism, patience, and tactical expertise ensured a peaceful resolution to a dangerous situation. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks our officers face daily and their commitment to protecting Campbell residents.”
