Because the Los Gatos Rotary Membership celebrates its one hundredth anniversary this yr, it’s seeking to give again to the neighborhood differently, with a brand new oak grove in Reside Oak Manor park.
The mission will create a “contemplative” house within the busy park with the addition of a number of timber, a brand new paved path and seating house across the timber. The group outlined its plans at a city council assembly on June 18, and the council endorsed the mission at a Sept. 17 assembly.
“We figured there wasn’t really much of a place to just sit and have a quiet time in nature,” Rotarian Adam Mayer stated. “So that was also what we’re trying to provide in this park, which it seemed to lack.”
The mission is only one a part of the Los Gatos Rotary Membership’s centennial celebrations, which have included a gala on the Mountain Vineyard in Saratoga in Might, the donation of a bus to a faculty in El Salvador and a fundraising effort for native highschool college students.

However the oak grove mission, he stated, is the group’s effort to provide again at house.
“We also want to acknowledge, especially at the centennial, that we also care about our local community, and this project represents that – our relationship with the local community,” Mayer stated.
He stated the group has been working “behind the scenes” with the city’s public works division and HMH Panorama Structure to finalize the mission particulars. The Los Gatos Rotary Membership can be overlaying the price of labor, design and supplies for the mission, and the city can be accountable for ongoing upkeep, Mayer stated.
Whereas building is presently set to start this fall, Mayer stated the quantity of rain on the forecast this yr might delay that begin.
“There might be a possibility that it would have to be pushed to next year, which we’re okay with,” he stated. “But it really depends on the season.”
