SAN FRANCISCO — The Valkyries put Sunday’s sport away early.

Coming off a formidable win over Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever on Thursday, Golden State crushed the Connecticut Solar 87-63 in entrance of its seventh consecutive sellout crowd of 18,064.

The Valkyries shot 35.9% from the sector and hit 9 3-pointers. They took a 27-point lead at halftime and didn’t look again.

Kayla Thornton scored a game-high 21 factors, grabbed eight rebounds and made two steals. Tiffany Hayes scored 14 factors. Laeticia Amihere had a double-double off the bench with 10 factors and 12 rebounds.

Aneesah Morrow led the Solar with 14 factors.

After beginning the season 2-5, the Valkyries have received 5 of their final six video games

“We knew we couldn’t come in and relax,” Thornton mentioned. “Their record does not reflect who they are. We didn’t want the same thing that happened against Dallas to happen tonight.”

They led by three factors after the primary quarter and blew the sport open within the second.

Guard Kaitlyn Chen opened the second interval with an and-1 floater that drew loud cheers from the group. The bucket was Chen’s first in her WNBA profession.

After Chen’s basket, the Valkyries went on a 21-10 run to take a 20-point lead with 3:22 left within the second quarter. Golden State had its greatest scoring quarter of the season, ending the body with 36 factors to take a 59-32 halftime lead.

Thornton had 17 factors within the first half whereas Hayes added 14. The Valkyries made 8-of-14 3s and shot 50% from the sector within the first 20 minutes.

Connecticut shot 28.6% from the sector and turned the ball over 5 occasions within the first half.

The Valkyries continued to pour it on within the second half. Golden State ballooned its result in as giant as 30.

In one in all their most dominant performances of the season, the Valkyries outscored the Solar 32-12 within the paint and out-rebounded the guests 50-35.

“We wanted to get paint points and that was what was working for us,” Hayes mentioned. “We always say we want to shoot the ball when we’re open, but at the end of the day, if they’re going to give you the paint, we will take that as well. So I think we just read the reads well and we got to the paint when we when we needed to.”

The Valkyries will play host to the New York Liberty on Wednesday of their subsequent sport. It should mark the primary time Walnut Creek native and Miramonte Excessive alum Sabrina Ionescu will face the Valkyries within the Bay Space.
