The reported US seizure of a ship allegedly carrying Chinese language-made dual-use parts to Iran would possibly sign Washington was “testing the waters” on reviving an outdated tactic to strain Beijing’s ties with its adversaries, however such strikes risked breaching worldwide legislation, analysts stated.

An American particular operations workforce boarded a ship from China certain for Iran within the Indian Ocean close to Sri Lanka final month, The Wall Avenue Journal reported final Friday. Citing sources, it stated the operation aimed to dam Tehran’s import of parts for its navy build-up.

Operatives from the US Indo-Pacific Command, each particular and traditional forces, allowed the vessel to proceed after confiscating the cargo, the report stated.

The operation comes amid Pentagon efforts to curb Iran’s navy build-up – together with its nuclear and missile programmes – following US and Israeli air strikes on Iranian nuclear services in June.
