REDWOOD CITY – An inmate’s loss of life final week at a Redwood Metropolis jail is being investigated as a drug-related murder, authorities stated.
Detectives decided one other inmate introduced medicine into the jail and gave them to Blount, the sheriff’s workplace stated, including that “the drugs are believed to have contained fentanyl.”
The county coroner’s workplace will decide Blount’s official explanation for loss of life, the sheriff’s workplace stated.
The sheriff’s workplace recognized the inmate who introduced the medicine into the power as 34-year-old Ashley Gromnicki. She stays in custody whereas prosecutors overview the case for potential homicide prices.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” Sheriff Christina Corpus stated in a press release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Markeisha’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time.”
The sheriff’s workplace stated it has carried out a number of specialised sweeps of the jail for any remaining medicine.
Holding medicine out of its jails is a “daily focus,” the sheriff’s workplace stated, including that it depends on body-scanning machines, canines, searches and different measures. On Oct. 1, deputies stopped a 27-year-old San Jose man from smuggling methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a cellphone into the Maple Road Correctional Facility.
