Harley-Davidson is recalling about 41,600 bikes over issues that wiring contained in the bikes might expertise a brief circuit and trigger a lack of energy.

The corporate stated in a report filed with the Nationwide Freeway Site visitors Security Administration (NHTSA) that the recalled 2024 FLHX, FLHXSE, FLTRX, FLTRXSE and FLTRXSTSE bikes might expertise a brief circuit if their voltage regulator output wire turns into uncovered from rubbing towards the crankcase.

“If a short to ground occurs, the 60-amp main fuse may open, resulting in a loss of propulsion, combined with a loss of all electrical power, without prior indication to the rider,” the recall report stated. “The unexpected loss of propulsion combined with the loss of all electrical power while in motion, without the ability to restart, may increase the risk of the crash.”

Harley-Davidson is informing prospects in regards to the recall this week.

The recalled FLHX and FLTRX bikes have been constructed between late October 2023 and this July, based on the report. In the meantime, the manufacturing for others occurred between November 2023 and July. 

Licensed Harley-Davidson sellers will repair the recalled bikes at no cost.

Addressing the difficulty “will include inspection of the voltage regulator output wire harness and installation of a secondary retention strap,” based on the report.

Recalled bikes with broken voltage regulator output wire harnesses will obtain wire harness extension as a alternative, it stated.
