Mike White, a Bay Space native who starred at Cal and coached the Bears, Stanford, the Raiders and the 49ers amongst others throughout his six many years in soccer, died on Sunday. He was 89.

White was a distinguished department on the teaching bushes of Invoice Walsh and Dick Vermeil, two different Northern California natives. However his ties to Bay Space soccer stretch to the early Nineteen Fifties when White was a multi-sport star at Acalanes Excessive. He went to Cal, the place he performed receiver and in 1957 was voted group captain.

Instantly after commencement, White joined a Cal teaching workers that may later embrace Walsh. After six seasons at Cal, White went to arch rival Stanford to affix a workers that included Vermeil. First as an assistant after which as head coach, White was credited with growing a few of Cal’s biggest quarterbacks  – Craig Morton, Steve Bartkowski and Joe Roth. White succeeded Shell because the Raiders’ head coach in 1995. White’s two-year stint with the Raiders was remembered largely for being the primary again in Oakland after 12 years in L.A., a 8–2 begin adopted by six straight losses to the top the 1995 season, and, after going 7-9 in 1996, he was fired by Al Davis on Christmas Eve.

The subsequent season White joined Vermeil, who was lured out of retirement by the St. Louis Rams, and three seasons later retired after serving to the Rams beat Tennessee in Tremendous Bowl XXXIV. However when Vermeil was employed by the Chiefs, White served as Kansas Metropolis’s director of soccer administration from 2001 to 2005.

White is also credited, together with former Dallas Cowboys presided Tex Schramm, with the NFL start to get a foothold in Europe by serving to set up the World League in 1989.
