LIVERMORE — Crews had principally contained a 260-acre wildfire that unfold quick Thursday close to Livermore, Tracy and the junction of Interstate 580 and Interstate 205, signaling the arrival of wildfire season within the Bay Space.

As of seven:30 p.m., the Halfway Fireplace was 75% contained, mentioned Chelsea Burkett, a spokesperson for Cal Fireplace’s Santa Clara unit. The blaze didn’t harm any constructions.

“We’re in our mop-up phase right now,” she mentioned.

Floor crews had been cooling any scorching spots within the burn space and would stay via the night time to observe the scene, Burkett mentioned.

The hearth sparked at about 3 p.m. Thursday close to the intersection of Patterson Move Highway and Halfway Highway, in response to the company.

Air and floor assets shortly battled the comb fireplace, which had jumped I-580 and snarled site visitors within the area. Firefighters held the fireplace’s progress at a neighborhood aqueduct.

Burkett mentioned the fireplace had unfold shortly in fields of dry grass, fed by winds.

“The wildland season has begun,” the Alameda County Fireplace Division’s union posted on social media.
