Closure of I-680 deliberate in Fremont this weekend

FREMONT — Southbound lanes of Interstate 680 might be closed to visitors in Fremont over the weekend because the California Division of Transportation performs important bridge and pavement repairs.

The closure close to the Mission San Jose Overpass will start at 8 p.m. Friday with all southbound lanes closed to visitors and work starting by 10 p.m. Building is anticipated to be accomplished by 5 a.m. Monday, July 28.

“These 55-hour closures are necessary to safely and efficiently complete key construction activities, including full bridge deck resurfacing and approach slab repairs,” Caltrans stated in a press launch saying the closure and development. “This work must be performed without live traffic to ensure worker and motorists safety. Concentrating these operations during weekend closures will help reduce the overall duration and impact of the project.”

Southbound visitors close to the development zone might be redirected by the Mission Boulevard off ramp and again onto the freeway on the subsequent on-ramp.

Extra nighttime work, together with pavement striping, barrier set up and different ending parts, will happen by Spring 2026, in keeping with the discover.
