RICHMOND — Sitting councilmembers had been vying to maintain their seats in two of three Richmond Metropolis Council races. Preliminary outcomes have one main their opponent and the opposite trailing theirs.

Vice Mayor Claudia Jimenez, who has represented District 6 since first being elected in 2020, is main in her reelection bid towards battle decision marketing consultant Shawn Dunning. As of preliminary outcomes on Tuesday night time, Jimenez had obtained about 57% of the vote whereas 43% backed Dunning.

In the meantime, District 1 Councilmember Melvin Willis was trailing social employee Dr. Jamelia Brown in his reelection bid, based on preliminary outcomes Tuesday from the Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters.

Whereas Willis had obtained about 40% of the vote, Brown had obtained 47.87%. Retired auto mechanic Mark Wassberg was in third place with 12% of the vote.

A 3rd race to exchange retiring Councilmember Gayle McLaughlin will convey a brand new face to the council. Nonprofit advisor Sue Wilson was main in that race towards nonprofit director Ahad Anderson with about 58% to about 42%, based on early outcomes.
