Bicyclist killed in collision with rubbish truck in Atherton

ATHERTON — A bicyclist was killed in a collision with a rubbish truck Wednesday morning in Atherton, based on authorities.

The loss of life marks the town’s first site visitors fatality of the yr.

An preliminary investigation decided the rubbish truck was touring southbound on Middlefield Highway and starting to show proper onto Prior Lane when it hit the bicyclist, who was additionally touring southbound within the designated bicycle lane, police stated.

The motive force remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police stated there isn’t a indication that alcohol or medication had been contributing elements within the collision.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Workplace will launch the bicyclist’s identification as soon as it’s confirmed and their subsequent of kin is notified, police stated.

In an announcement Friday, Atherton police Chief Steven McCulley stated officers might be stepping up patrols within the space to carry extra consideration to bicycle, pedestrian and automobile security.

“On behalf of the entire police department team and the town of Atherton, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the victim,” McCulley stated. “No words can ease the pain of such a devastating loss, but please know that our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time.”
