Berkeley: Three injured in pair of ‘deliberate’ hit-and-runs

BERKELEY – A 26-year-old Vallejo man is in custody following two separate hit-and-runs and a pair of tried carjackings Tuesday in Berkeley, in accordance with authorities.

Perry stated a 3rd sufferer – a 78-year-old man using his bicycle – was discovered afterward Derby Avenue. He was additionally taken to the hospital.

All three victims had been listed in secure situation Tuesday evening, in accordance with Perry.

Perry described the collisions as “deliberate acts.”

“While the victims involved in these crashes do not appear to have been specifically targeted, the crashes themselves appear to be deliberate acts by the suspect,” Perry stated. “There is no evidence to suggest these acts were racially or politically motivated.”

The identical suspect was linked to a pair of carjackings – each involving girls driving their youngsters to highschool – on Garber Avenue, Perry stated. No accidents had been reported.

Officers arrested the suspect on Faculty Avenue after he tried to steal one other automobile, in accordance with Perry. He was booked on the metropolis jail on fees together with tried homicide, tried carjacking, driving beneath the affect and automobile theft.

The automobile the suspect was driving had been reported stolen in Richmond, Perry stated, including that the circumstances that introduced him to Berkeley are nonetheless beneath investigation.
