Benicia residents informed to preserve water after line is broken

BENICIA — A water line was broken Wednesday in Benicia, main town to name for a right away discount in water use.

Town issued a “stage 4 critical water shortage alert,” which requires a 40% cutback in water use citywide. It applies to all residents, colleges, companies, group organizations and different services.

Residents can preserve water by operating dishwashers and washing machines solely with full hundreds, limiting showers to not more than 5 minutes, and stopping all non-essential water use. No automobile washing or pool filling is permitted beneath the alert.

Public works crews are assessing the injury and dealing with contractors to make repairs.

Town, in the meantime, will depend on its secondary water supply, Lake Herman. Water from the lake “may occasionally have a natural, earthy taste or odor due to organic compounds,” however it’s secure to drink and “meets all state and federal water quality standards,” town stated.

Test again for updates.
