“We have been looking for a space for about three years,” Blechman mentioned. “It was tough to find space that would work. The location we picked was something we hit on right away. It was like a light shining down.”

The shop is taking on 13,300 sq. ft of area, based on Blechman. At current, Trudys Brides occupies about 10,000 sq. ft on two ranges in The Pruneyard.

“It’s a big decision to leave a location where you have been for 50 years,” Blechman mentioned. “There’s a lot of insecurity.

Blechman is also well aware of the high-profile status of the Pruneyard, which is a regional draw — but can also command top-level rents.

“The Pruneyard is a destination, Blechman said. “But I don’t need to spend Pruneyard kind of money trying to pull in customers.”

Trudys Brides expects to be in its new location by June of this 12 months, based on Blechman.

The rental settlement additionally helps to fill a big empty area that Walgreens had vacated as a part of the retailer’s quest to close 1,200 shops nationwide, together with 500 in 2025.

The elevated quantity of elbow room offers Trudys larger flexibility in its operations, the corporate said.

Trudys will be capable to host vogue exhibits, unique preview occasions, wedding ceremony and promenade showcases and in-store designer boutiques. Plus, prospects could have extra respiratory room.

The brand new retailer will probably be about two miles from the retailer’s long-time Pruneyward location.

This implies Trudys Brides will be capable to preserve serving its long-time loyal prospects in addition to appeal to new patrons from the Cambrian and Willow Glen neighborhoods in addition to the remainder of San Jose and different elements of the Bay Space.

Trudys will preserve working on the Pruneyard web site till the transfer really happens this summer season.

Blechman is the son of the late founders of Trudys, Roger and Trudy Blechman. He operates Trudys together with his spouse Rebekah Blechman.

“The whole goal is to create an experience for the customer that is different from what our competitors offer,” Blechman mentioned.

Blechman mentioned he doesn’t need Trudys to have the appear and feel of department shops or different bigger rivals.

“Our customers want to come in and feel special about the buying process,” Blechman mentioned. “They want to touch, feel, and have an experience rather than just trying on a dress in their living room.”
