American Airways was levied with a large high-quality by the Division of Transportation (DOT) over alleged breaches of airline passenger incapacity laws for wheelchairs. 

The DOT stated the high-quality American Airways incurred as a part of a consent order between the 2 events amounted to $50 million. 

American Airways is receiving credit score on $25 million for “investments in equipment to reduce incidents of wheelchair damage, investments in a systemwide wheelchair tagging system to reduce incidents of wheelchair delay, deployment of hub control center employees to coordinate wheelchair handling on a systemwide basis at large airports, and compensation for affected passengers during the timeframe covered by DOT’s investigation,” the company stated.

Julie Rath, American Airways’ senior vice chairman of airport operations, reservations and repair restoration, stated in an announcement that the settlement with the DOT “reaffirms American’s commitment to taking care of all of our customers,” together with these with disabilities.
