California officers have rejected the Trump administration’s calls for to cease transgender athletes from competing in ladies highschool sports activities.

The proposal would have required the state to apologize and restore awards to women who misplaced sports activities titles to trans athletes. It additionally would’ve required the state to inform college sports activities applications that obtain federal funding that Title IX, a federal legislation banning intercourse discrimination in schooling, prohibits trans ladies from taking part in ladies sports activities.

U.S. Schooling Secretary Linda McMahon posted on X Monday that the California Division of Schooling and the California Interscholastic Federation, a governing physique for highschool sports activities, stated they might not conform to the suggestions. The state schooling division didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark and the federation stated it doesn’t touch upon authorized issues.

The Trump administration unveiled the proposal final month after figuring out California insurance policies permitting trans ladies to compete on sports activities groups that align with their gender id violated Title IX. The federal authorities gave the state 10 days to vary its insurance policies or “risk imminent enforcement action.”
