San Jose Sharks’ Macklin Celebrini denied NHL’s high rookie award

SAN JOSE — San Jose Sharks middle Macklin Celebrini won’t be able to have a good time his upcoming birthday with the Calder Trophy.

Celebrini completed third in Calder Trophy voting because the NHL’s high rookie this previous season behind winner Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames goalie Dustin Wolf. 

Members of the Skilled Hockey Writers Affiliation vote on the award.

Celebrini, who turns 19 on Friday, led the Sharks with 63 factors in 70 video games this season and all NHL rookies in factors per sport. He additionally led all Sharks forwards nonetheless with the group in common time on ice (19:47).

Hutson, Celebrini’s former teammate at Boston College, led all rookies with 66 factors in 82 video games. That made him the third-highest scoring participant on a Canadiens group that made a 15-point leap within the standings and superior to the playoffs for the primary time since 2021.

Wolf, a Gilroy native, practically did the identical with the Flames, beginning 53 video games and going 29-16-8 with three shutouts and a .910 save proportion.

Celebrini was the fourth Sharks participant to be named a finalist for the Calder Trophy. Goalie Evgeni Nabokov received the award after the 2000-01 season, and defenseman Brad Stuart (1999-2000) and middle Logan Couture (2010-11) had been runners-up.
