Govt wheat procurement thus far this 12 months 11% greater than whole 2024 buy | India Information

NEW DELHI: Wheat procurement through the present Rabi advertising season (RMS) has crossed 296 lakh tonne until Sunday, 11% greater than all the buy of the cereal by govt businesses final 12 months. This places the government in a snug place to satisfy the statutory meals safety requirement and for market intervention to examine value rise.As procurement will proceed until June finish in some wheat-producing states, the government is hopeful of taking the overall buy to greater than 300 lakh tonne. What’s extra attention-grabbing is that whereas Punjab and Haryana — two main wheat producing states — have reported much less procurement this 12 months as in comparison with the final RMS, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have seen a steep improve in govt buy.Whereas Madhya Pradesh recorded 77.7 lakh tonne of wheat procurement until Sunday, registering a 66% rise over final 12 months, in Rajasthan, it has nearly doubled to 17.2 lakh tonne. Sources stated decrease procurement in Punjab and Haryana is because of elevated non-public shopping for. “This year there is enough wheat for everyone, from govt agencies to private players, because of a bumper crop. Private players offering better prices than the MSP (minimum support price) is good for farmers,” stated an official. The agriculture ministry has projected a document 1,154 lakh of wheat manufacturing for 2024-25. The Meals Company of India provides round 184 lakh tonne of the grain to just about 80 crore beneficiaries below the PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna and different social welfare schemes. After reaching a document procurement of 433 lakh tonne within the 2021-22 season, the acquisition by govt businesses below MSP operations fell to a low of 188 lakh tonne within the 2022-23 season due to decrease output. Nevertheless, it rose by round 40% to 262 lakh tonne in 2023-24.
