The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating how pilots flying into Denver Worldwide Airport briefly misplaced contact with air site visitors controllers on Monday. 

The FAA informed FOX Enterprise that a part of the Denver Air Route Site visitors Management Middle (ARTCC) skilled a lack of communications for about 90 seconds round 1:50 p.m. native time on Monday after each transmitters that cowl a section of airspace went down.

Sources informed Denver7 that as many as 20 pilots have been unable to talk with ATC. The air site visitors management system has been underneath immense stress for years, given the persisting staffing shortages, outdated know-how and underinvestment in essential infrastructure. Within the meantime, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and performing Administrator Chris Rocheleau introduced a slew of initiatives to enhance operations in Newark and construct an all-new, state-of-the-art air site visitors management system.

Amongst their targets, Duffy and Rocheleau need to add three new high-bandwidth telecommunications connections between the New York-based STARS and Philadelphia TRACON, which they consider will enhance velocity, reliability and redundancy. 

STARS is an FAA system that processes radar information for Newark and relies in New York. Telecommunications traces feed this information from New York to the Philadelphia TRACON.

Duffy projected that constructing an all-new, state-of-the-art air site visitors management system will take three to 4 years.
