Automotive hearth in Caldecott Tunnel snarls site visitors on Freeway 24

OAKLAND – Visitors was snarled Wednesday afternoon on eastbound Freeway 24 after a automotive caught hearth within the Caldecott Tunnel.

The hearth stemmed from a two-vehicle collision simply after 4 p.m., in accordance with the California Freeway Patrol. The Oakland Fireplace Division stated the blaze broke out about 400 toes into the tunnel.

All site visitors was stopped in Bore 1 and Bore 2 whereas crews labored to extinguish the hearth and clear the scene.

The blaze was extinguished by 4:55 p.m.

The driving force of the automotive that caught hearth and a passenger had been picked up and pushed by way of the tunnel by one other motorist, in accordance with the CHP. No accidents had been reported.

Bore 2 was open once more as of 6:30 p.m. however Bore 1 remained closed. There was no estimated time to reopen the roadway. The CHP suggested motorists to count on delays and use alternate routes to keep away from the realm.
