VTA to supply Uber vouchers amid ongoing strike

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority plans to offer Uber vouchers as a strike stretches into a 3rd week.

On Monday evening, the company introduced it would supply vouchers as much as $5 for every journey with a most of two rides per day. Rides should start and finish at a VTA bus or mild rail cease and should be ordered on Uber’s cell app, in keeping with the VTA.

Clients pays for the primary $2.50 of any journey, after which the voucher will take impact, and any further prices will even be paid by the shopper, the company stated.

“We recognize the difficulties our riders are facing due to the transit strike, and we’re committed to offering solutions that can ease their transportation challenges,” VTA Deputy Basic Supervisor Greg Richardson stated in an announcement. “This partnership with Uber reflects our dedication to ensuring mobility for Santa Clara County residents.”

The VTA introduced the pilot program after members of Amalgamated Transit Union Native 265 voted overwhelmingly to reject the company’s newest contract supply.

The proposal provided an 11% increase over three years in change for the union agreeing to proposals that would cut back absenteeism, in addition to language relating to arbitration that either side agreed to and a compromise relating to holidays.

In an announcement, the VTA stated it had put ahead a “more than fair proposal that ensures employees receive competitive pay and strong benefits for themselves and their families.”

“VTA’s latest proposal reflects our commitment to our workforce,” the company stated, “and we urge our employees to embrace this chance to secure their future and return to work.”

The union walked off the job March 10 after negotiations for a brand new contract fell aside the week earlier than, primarily as a result of two sides disagreeing on arbitration language and the dimensions of a pay increase. The strike has impacted roughly 100,000 individuals.
