A gaggle of younger women and their households are talking out after a bear spray incident in Kelowna, B.C., final Halloween evening.

The incident occurred at Curlew Park in Kelowna’s Higher Mission neighbourhood, when the women say they have been approached by a bunch of boys, allegedly sporting ski masks.

“They asked us to follow them down the pathway and we said no, so we kept walking,” stated Kamryn.

Nonetheless, they are saying the boys continued to comply with them.

Worry took over as the women instantly felt the burn from the bear spray.

“It felt like (my face) was on fire, like it physically caught on fire, you’re whole face is burning,” stated Nina-Vienne.

4 months later, the dad and mom say they’ve been given little to no info on the case.

“The updates have been that there are no updates, that the case is still open, that they haven’t brought the suspects in for questioning,” stated Alana Stroeder, one of many women’ dad or mum.

Kelowna RCMP was unavailable for remark, however a report back to metropolis council confirms youth-related bear spray incidents have elevated from six per cent in 2019 to 19.2 per cent.

The report urges council to undertake a bylaw that may limit the sale of bear spray to anybody beneath 18 years previous.

“Our goal right now is to make sure justice is brought to our girls, anything that comes from it is a bonus for us,” stated Tanisha, one other dad or mum.
