ANTIOCH — A virtually eight-hour standoff with a 61-year-old man, who was armed with a knife and suspected of home violence, ended late Friday with the person being taken into custody by members of the Antioch Police Division SWAT staff.

The standoff started after police have been referred to as to a house within the 1000 block of Stonecrest Drive about 3:43 p.m. Friday, in accordance with an Antioch police press launch. A girl had reportedly been assaulted, kidnapped and robbed by the suspect.

When officers arrived on the residence, they discovered the lady, 47, exterior, along with her alleged assailant barricaded inside, the press launch stated. The person additionally was believed to be armed. Police additionally realized that he had violated the phrases of a court docket order and was wished on a number of unrelated felony warrants for violating the phrases of his probation.

Officers tried to barter with the person for a number of hours, however he refused to come back out and give up, the discharge stated. He as an alternative displayed a big knife on the officers. The Antioch Police Division’s Disaster Negotiation and SWAT groups quickly responded and continued negotiations.

Throughout that point, police requested folks to keep away from the realm, as they labored to cope with this “contained emergency situation.”

At 11:46 p.m., the person lastly surrendered and SWAT staff members took him into custody, the discharge stated. He was transported to the hospital for medical analysis and later booked into Contra Costa County Jail on suspicion of assault with a lethal weapon, felony home violence, kidnapping, violation of a court docket order and resisting arrest.
