Wanda Irene Mapes, 94, of Nutter Fort, WV, handed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Maplewood Healthcare in Bridgeport.
She was born in Vienna, WV, on December 7, 1930, a daughter of the late William and Ruth (Taylor) Williams.
Along with her dad and mom, Wanda was preceded in demise by her husband, Charles D. Mapes, in 1997; a daughter in infancy, Ruellen Mapes; and a son-in-law, Eugene “Gene” Hawk.
Mrs. Mapes is survived by her three kids: Charles W. “Chuck” Mapes (Janet Bogen) of Harrisville, WV, Grenda Hawk of Charleston, and Theodore “Ted” Mapes (Jenny Kopp Mapes) of Florence, SC; two sisters: her twin Waneta Shilling of Kent, OH and Hencie DeGive of Fl; grandchildren: Brittany Hawk (Adam Williams), Duncan Mapes (Liz Keenan), Stuart Mapes (Crystal Lengthy), and Will Mapes (Elizabeth); great-grandchildren: Maya Mapes, Liam Lynch, Braxton Mapes, Lawlis Mapes, and Dallis Mapes; niece Gwen Carroll; and nephews: Tim Coleman, Mark Shilling, and Hayden Laffoon.
Wanda was a graduate of Washington-Irving Excessive Faculty and Fairmont State Faculty. She was particularly happy with graduating from Fairmont State Faculty on the age of 40 and beginning a profession in schooling. She taught sixth grade at Broadway Elementary, third grade at Misplaced Creek Elementary, and third grade at Marlinton Elementary.
