REDWOOD CITY – Officers fatally shot a person holding a gun Tuesday afternoon in Redwood Metropolis, police mentioned.

In an announcement, the Redwood Metropolis Police Division mentioned officers had been known as to the 200 block of Hazel Avenue simply after 2:30 p.m. for a report of a person who had fired a gun into the sidewalk.

Officers fashioned a fringe and used a drone to search out the person. A crew of officers geared up with each “lethal and less-lethal options” then tried to make contact with him, police mentioned.

“As officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, he retrieved a firearm from his person and pointed it toward the officers,” police mentioned. “Less lethal and lethal munitions were fired.”

The person was struck by the gunfire, police mentioned, including that he acquired medical assist on the scene and was then taken to an space hospital, the place he died from his accidents.

Police recognized the person as Jose Reynaldo Lombera, 48, of Redwood Metropolis. No different accidents had been reported.

The officers immediately concerned within the taking pictures have been positioned on administrative depart, as is customary in such circumstances, police mentioned.

The San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Workplace, San Mateo County Coroner’s Workplace and Redwood Metropolis Police Division are conducting a joint investigation into the taking pictures.
