Kampala, Uganda — Not less than 63 folks had been killed in an accident involving a number of autos on a freeway in western Uganda, police mentioned Wednesday. A number of others had been injured within the crash, police mentioned in a press release on social media.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight native time on the freeway from Kampala, the capital, to Gulu, a significant metropolis in northern Uganda.

Two bus drivers getting into reverse instructions tried to go different autos and collided head-on, in line with police. 4 autos had been concerned in all.

“One of the (bus) drivers swerved in an attempt to avoid collision, but this resulted in a head-on and side collision, causing a chain reaction that led to other vehicles losing control and overturning several times,” the assertion continued.

Deadly street crashes are widespread in Uganda, the place roads are sometimes slim. Police often blame such accidents on rushing drivers.

“As investigations continue, we strongly urge all motorists to exercise maximum caution on the roads, especially avoiding dangerous and careless overtaking, which remains one of the leading causes of crashes in the country,” the police mentioned.
