Two arrested in reference to San Mateo carjacking

SAN MATEO — Two East Bay residents have been arrested in reference to a carjacking and assault with a lethal weapon earlier this yr in San Mateo, police stated.

The incident occurred shortly earlier than 5 a.m. on June 8 within the 700 block of South Humboldt Road, close to seventh Avenue, based on the San Mateo Police Division.

The sufferer advised officers he was strolling away from his parked and idling automobile when one other automobile drove up and a person obtained out. The person then hopped into the sufferer’s automobile, police stated.

The sufferer tried to tug the person out of the automobile, which led to a wrestle. The person then drew a knife and lunged on the sufferer, based on police. The sufferer was not injured.

Police stated the person drove away within the sufferer’s automobile and was adopted by the opposite automobile.

A months-long investigation led to the identification of the first suspect as a 25-year-old man and the motive force of the opposite automobile as a 22-year-old man, each of Oakland.

By then, the first suspect was already in custody for unrelated fees, police stated, including that “the crimes of carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon were added to his booking sheet.”

Members of the California Nationwide Guard helped police discover the 22-year-old man, who was arrested Wednesday in Oakland.

A San Mateo police spokesperson stated a Cal Guard analyst is assigned to the division just for narcotics investigations by the governor’s workplace. As a result of the first suspect was concerned in a earlier investigation with the division, Cal Guard members carried out surveillance within the case, however they didn’t help within the arrest.

The person was booked into San Mateo County jail on suspicion of carjacking and assault with a lethal weapon.
