Sixth-graders at Columbia Center College got a portal into house exploration Oct. 3 by Dr. Pascal Lee, a planetary scientist with the SETI Institute, the Mars Institute and NASA Ames Analysis Middle.

Lee spoke to college students about his Mars analysis and what it will take to journey to the crimson planet, together with how the science and math they’re studying might be utilized.

The varsity go to was made attainable by way of a grant awarded by the Ames Contractor Council. The Sunnyvale Training Basis labored in partnership with Sunnyvale College District librarian Julie Griffin to acquire the grant, which additionally helped pay for brand spanking new house science books in each the Columbia and Sunnyvale center faculty libraries. Every library will obtain roughly 22 new books in each English and Spanish.

Creativeness Library

The Santa Clara County Library District is partnering with the Sunnyvale Public Library, amongst others, to deliver Dolly Parton’s Creativeness Library to younger readers within the county. This worldwide effort mails free, high-quality, age-appropriate books to youngsters below age 5 each month, with a aim of sparking a lifetime love of studying.

“Building a home library, reading to children starting at birth, and introducing families to their public library are important ways to help our littlest learners become successful readers,” stated County Librarian Jennifer Weeks in a launch.

All youngsters below age 5 residing in Santa Clara County are invited to be a part of the free program. Creativeness Library titles can be found in English or Spanish. Books arrive roughly eight to 12 weeks after registration. Kids will proceed to obtain a brand new e-book each month till their fifth birthday.
