REDWOOD CITY — Half a dozen inmates and 4 deputies have been injured Friday morning when a brawl broke out on the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood Metropolis, authorities stated.
The incident occurred round 10:45 a.m. in a housing unit, in line with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Workplace, which oversees the power. On the time, inmates have been “participating in recreation” and “being actively monitored,” authorities stated.
The jail was instantly locked down whereas deputies used “less-lethal options to swiftly and safely get the situation under control,” in line with the sheriff’s workplace.
The sheriff’s workplace estimated 30 inmates have been concerned within the incident. Six have been taken to space hospitals with accidents and have been listed in steady situation Friday afternoon.

“Thankfully, all reported injuries are non-life-threatening,” the union stated in a press release.
An investigation is underway into the incident, and investigators are working to find out the circumstances surrounding the combat, in line with the sheriff’s workplace.
“I’m grateful to the sheriff’s office personnel who acted swiftly to stop the fight and ensure the safety of the correctional facility and everyone inside of the facility,” Sheriff Christina Corpus stated in a press release. “Their actions undoubtedly prevented more serious injuries and ensured the situation was quickly under control.”
The power remained safe throughout the incident and there was no menace to public security, in line with the sheriff’s workplace.
