Darden Eating places will begin delivering Olive Backyard meals by way of Uber later this 12 months.

“Guests have been asking us for home delivery options, and they continue to show they are willing to pay for the convenience,” Darden CEO Rick Cardenas stated in a Thursday assertion. “As we continued to evaluate delivery, it was important for us to find a way to address this guest need state without disrupting the team member or guest experience and without compromising our competitive advantages and simple operating model.” 

Darden will cost Olive Backyard clients the identical for his or her meals whether or not they select dine-in, to-go or supply, Cardenas advised traders throughout the firm’s earnings name. He indicated the choices can be on par with what the chain at the moment sells for takeout orders.

“On-demand delivery is increasingly a core expectation for consumers,” Uber Eats Head of Americas and Vice President of Supply Sarfraz Maredia stated in an announcement. “People also expect a great experience, especially when it’s from a brand they love like Olive Garden, and that doesn’t change whether it’s at the restaurant or at home. We’re confident our teams can deliver on that promise together and continue to grow first-party delivery as a channel.”

Previous to sealing the partnership with Uber, Cardenas stated Darden had began partaking in “more serious discussions” about Uber Direct with the rideshare firm within the spring.

Darden sees the Uber Direct supply partnership as an incremental long-term gross sales driver, in line with Cardenas. 

Within the first-quarter, Olive Backyard generated a complete of $1.2 billion in gross sales and $249 million in income for Darden, representing year-over-year decreases of 1.5% and 5%, respectively.  As a complete, Darden noticed $2.76 billion in gross sales and $207.6 million in web earnings throughout all of its varied restaurant manufacturers.
