President-elect Donald Trump is bringing again a senior White Home official who led his first-term push to make it simpler to fireplace civil servants.
James Sherk, who served as a particular assistant on home coverage throughout Trump’s first time period, will return to serve within the White Home Home Coverage Council, Trump introduced Saturday. Sherk has labored on the Trump-aligned America First Coverage Institute throughout the Biden administration.
Sherk was central to the Trump administration’s efforts to make it simpler to fireplace some federal workers utilizing a classification referred to as Schedule F. That effort generated an outcry from civil servants, and the Biden administration moved shortly to reverse course.
However the effort “could — and should — be reissued by another president,” Sherk wrote in a 2022 Wall Avenue Journal op-ed titled, “The President Needs the Power to Fire Bureaucrats.”
The incoming Trump administration has made it clear that it plans to pursue drastic reforms to the federal workforce, and Sherk is poised to be central to these efforts. Trump has vowed to “shatter the deep state” and make it simpler to fireplace “rogue bureaucrats.”
In the course of the Biden administration, Sherk has filed Freedom of Info Act requests with a number of companies searching for profession staffers’ emails that point out Trump or President Joe Biden across the time of the 2020 election and the 2021 inauguration, he advised POLITICO’s E&E Information in 2022.
