As most are conscious, the Thirteenth Modification to the US Structure outlaws slavery with one abhorrent exception: as punishment for a criminal offense.

This “Except Clause” permits states to pressure prisoners to work, although there may be often token remuneration.

Because it seems, Todd and Julie had completely different experiences with jail — and dealing in jail. Julie labored. And Todd didn’t.

She grimly added: “Keep in mind, I was in a place where there was no air conditioning.” One other nice reminder that even our nation’s “nice” prisons can topic individuals to inhumane circumstances.

And we must always needless to say, although we’re speaking concerning the Chrisleys for the time being, a few of these prisoners had been definitely harmless.

Will the Chrisleys’ push for jail reform have any impression?

Todd and Julie Chrisley aren’t good individuals. They used their daughter’s political connections to weasel their means out of jail simply two years into their mixed 19 yr sentence.

However lots of the individuals in jail are first rate people. Some are totally harmless.

Others could have dedicated crimes however shouldn’t be incarcerated. And even those that deserve jail deserve higher circumstances than they obtain.

There are hopes that Todd and Julie will proceed to talk out about injustices that they skilled and noticed, pushing for jail reform.

Nonetheless, given the way in which that Todd has spoken about their conviction, there’s an actual danger of the messenger killing the message.
